·  Committee member and Chair of Headingley Residents Association, concerned with monitoring and influencing development proposals 1975-78

·  Committee member and Chair of Headingley Community Centre Assocation 1982-85, to campaign for, and later design, equip and run youth club for a Centre which opened in 1985 

·  Pioneer Group leader, Woodcraft Folk ( children’s organisation ) 1985-1988. Running weekly group and helping to organise annual camps and activities and manage one of the largest Districts. Training in leading outdoor activities. District Liaison officer with Cooperative Society 

·  Catering for Leeds Abbey Dash 1986 to 1997, providing hot and cold drinks for up to 1600 runners
